Student Testimonials

‘Teddy started teaching me when I was 61 years old. I had no musical experience except being an unwilling cellist in the school orchestra. But I have always loved listening to jazz. In 18 months he has taught me to play the tenor sax well. Amazingly I can play jazz classics and they sound good. He is a remarkable and intuitive teacher. He listens and knows exactly what needs tweaking to improve the sound. He has a gift for explaining the physical subtleties of embouchures, throat and jaw positions. He is kind and encouraging, and wears his extensive knowledge lightly. Thank you Teddy for letting me achieve the dream of a lifetime.’

‘Teddy has been a great find for us and our 10-year-old daughter. He is approachable, calm, and clearly knows the sax inside out. His approach to teaching is relaxed but assertive enough to really encourage students, and our daughter has made great progress in the short time she has been playing. She also finds reading (and sight reading) difficult, and Teddy has shown great initiative in finding new techniques which really help and encourage her. Having worked with many music teachers before, we are very impressed with Teddy and can highly recommend him.’
‘Teddy is an amazing teacher. He is very down to earth, but incredibly smart. He is really passionate about saxophone and knows how to use different techniques to help me play better and understand the music. He is so friendly and approachable, I really look forward to the lessons. He has helped me advance very quickly just because with his help, I understand how to play music.’
This student is studying for Grade 3 after only 7 months of lessons, starting as a beginner and earning a Grade 1 Distinction along the way.
‘In 2023, while in my mid-60s, I saw Teddy performing and asked him to take me on as a student. His teaching has been transformative. What sets him apart is his remarkable ability to pinpoint exactly what small adjustment will make the biggest difference in my playing. He is highly engaged in every lesson and impressively attentive to the nuances of sound production; whether it’s a subtle shift in embouchure, tonguing or breathing technique, he has an uncanny knack for identifying the precise modification that unlocks immediate improvement. His teaching, which comes from extensive experience as a performer and lifetime music scholar, is both enriching and practical, making complex challenges feel accessible and surmountable. I always leave lessons encouraged, with clear, actionable insights that accelerate my progress.’
